Protandim update - Notes from Dr. McCords recent lecture...

Oxidative stress has been linked to over 200 diseases. Controlling this area of health has been my goal for over 30 years. Now that we have the product that can do it, I am devoting most of my attention and energy toward sharing this breakthrough with people who are sick and or want to control aging and disease prevention.

Protandim is a NRF2 protein activator that stimulates SURVIVAL GENES.

Let’s see, when might these genes be important? In fighting air pollution, toxins in our food, water, and in the environment in general, lipid peroxides like rancid oils in fried food and vegetable oils sold in the store, as well as lipid oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which is why it's called the bad kind.

I reviewed a 45-minute lecture and clinical update by Dr. Joe McCord this morning on Protandim. The first thing he discussed is what makes Protandim really different from other products on the market.

Protandim is backed by peer-reviewed studies. What does that mean? Clinical studies are done all the time, but only 5% to 10% of them get accepted by the scrutiny of other independent scientists, usually 3 or 4 that look at the research and verify that the results are really relevant.

The results are then published by The National Library of Medicine on the website WWW.PUBMED.GOV. Go ahead and click on this link and do a search on Protandim, or any name brand product you currently use and see what comes up.

Protandim up-regulates genes that are anti-inflammatory, down-regulates those that are pro-inflammatory. Up-regulates 3 genes that increase radically the production of 3 metabolic anti-oxidant enzymes called SOD, Catalase and Glutathione Peroxidase. Also, down-regulated fibrotic gene expression which causes fibroids and scare tissue to be produced where you don’t want it, like your heart after a heart attack, or in your lungs as in pulmonary fibrosis.

That’s just a handful of the 400 to 500 genes that are being positively influenced by this powerful phytonutrient supplement.

Another set of genes that are down-regulated are called FABP 4 and 5, or Plasma Fatty Acid Binding Protein. These genes, when elevated, contribute to insulin resistance and the production of arterial calcified plaque. Protandim down-regulates these genes by 85%. That is why Protandim has just been chosen by the 2005 past president of the American Heart Association to do a human trial on Metabolic Syndrome. Doctors almost never consider anything but drugs for these kinds of studies.

Just two more from Dr McCord's update. Another gene that is expressed in a favorable way is AKR1B10. This gene was up- regulated with a high dose (2 tabs a day) of Protandim by as much as 3200%

This promotes a positive response to free radicals that are caused by lipid peroxidation, which is implicated in Cardiovascular disease and in Alzheimers.

Lastly, Dr. McCord was asked over the last 5 years as to whether you should take protandim if you are on chemo or radiation treatment for cancer. Because until recently the evidence was that it might make the treatments less effective, his answer was no. That recently changed when he reviewed a study on the NRF2 activator Curcumin, which is in Protandim but in a synergistic form that makes it even more portent than the single herb. The Peer Reviewed Study showed that, in fact, it would increase the effectiveness of treatments and at the same time protect the survival of healthy cells.
